Frequently Asked Questions

What is workplace rehabilitation?

Workplace rehabilitation is a structured process that supports a worker’s safe participation in work following an injury or illness. It may include assessments, planning, training, workplace adjustments and communication between stakeholders such as employers, insurers and treating practitioners.

What happens during a workplace assessment?

An Occupational Therapist meets with the worker and employer to review job tasks, functional requirements and any barriers to work. The clinician may observe tasks, assess the work environment and discuss suitable duties. Findings are provided in a written report with practical recommendations.

How does MPSM support return to work?

MPSM works collaboratively with workers, employers, insurers and treating practitioners to coordinate return-to-work planning. This may involve clarifying functional capacity, identifying suitable duties, recommending adjustments and supporting communication between parties.

Do you work with psychological injuries?

Yes. Our Occupational Therapists have experience supporting workers with psychological or psychosocial barriers to work. Support is process-based and may involve coordination, education and structured communication, within the clinician’s professional scope.

What is a Functional Capacity Evaluation?

A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a structured assessment that reviews an individual’s ability to perform physical or task-related demands. It may include assessments of strength, mobility, tolerance and functional tasks relevant to work.

How do I make a referral?

Referrers can submit a referral through our online referral form or via email. Once received, we acknowledge the referral, assign a clinician and coordinate initial contact with the worker and employer.

Do you provide vocational or redeployment assistance?

Yes. We provide vocational assessments, skills identification, job search support and work trial coordination for workers who may not be able to return to their pre-injury role.

Which schemes are you accredited under?

MPSM is accredited under Comcare Australia, iCare NSW, WorkSafe ACT, WorkCover WA and WorkCover Tasmania.

Do you offer remote or onsite services?

Yes. Services can be delivered onsite, remotely or through a combination of both, depending on worker needs and scheme requirements.

How long does the rehabilitation process take?

Timeframes vary based on individual circumstances, workplace demands and clinical factors. Your Occupational Therapist will provide guidance throughout the process, but cannot predict outcomes or durations.
